| Abstract | This study engaged in rice market chain analysis and income of marketing agents, especially farmers in Cantho city. The purpose of this study was to assess the characteristics of rice market chain, distribution of rice from farmers to other traders in the market, share in added value from rice transaction and income of market agents. Data collection was carried out by using financial, added value analysis, scale index method and directly interviewing rice market participants in Thotnot and Vinthanh districts - sources of rice production and rice centre market of Cantho city. Findings shows that there were two common chains of rice distribution: paddy was distributed from farmers to rice companies in the first chain or to rice retailers in the second chain. In market chains, farmers received equal return and the largest share of added value than other agents. However, farmers received the lowest income from rice selling among rice market agents. Besides, paddy collectors were the most important distributors in rice market chain. Rice companies focused most in foreign export and took the largest benefit from rice trading. Lack of capital and unstable rice were the most serious problems for almost components in rice market chain. |
