AbstractCost overrun in construction project is a chronic problem anda worldwide concern for the professionals in construction industry aggravated due to financial crisis triggered by price competitionall over the world. Executives and project managers around the world agree that poor communications contributes to project failure. various research works in this area endorse the crucial role of communication in costperformance improvement of construction projects. Yet there is a necessity to identify the factors of project communication in construction projects-both prior signing the contract and during the execution phase so that more attention could be given to them and could be implemented in practice.Focusing on the contractor’s perspective, this research aims to analyze the project communication factors affecting the cost performance of large construction projects. Two stages were considered by name-before signing contract and construction stage. Attributes extracted from literature review with its impact on cost performance was reduced by factor analysis to smaller group of factors.Total 110 respondents from 31 construction projects around Bangkok were included in the study.Total 11 factors were extracted among which 4 belongs to before signing contract stage and 7 belongs to construction stage. And from correlation analysis it was observed that among all the factors, Mutual Clarity of Expectation (from before contract signing) and Report and Communication (from Construction Stage) the factors that has most strong association with the cost performance of the construction project. Finally a communication model was proposed to overcome the communication obstacle and combine the whole communication process.
