Abstract | In data-centric user communities, users organize their data (e.g., images, documents) in hierarchical classifications, they publish both data and classifications on the Web, share them in a fully controlled manner with other users, and define links that connect interrelated nodes in classifications of different users. Because they have a well-defined semantics, these links can be used for an effective content-based propagation of user queries across community members. This thesis aims at the development, implementation, evaluation, and refinement of a distributed search algorithm in these data-centric user communities using specific kinds of links, called c-links. The main objective of this thesis is the integration of the refined algorithm within the Sweb distributed data and knowledge management system. |
