AbstractProcess (re)design or process evolution forms an important part in Business Process Management (BPM). Almost all management information systems today provide some kind of support for logging the events within the business processes. These event logs form the basis for process mining. Process mining is the analysis of the logs to obtain knowledge about the realworld business processes and enhancing them. Hence, process mining plays an important role in process (re)design. Majority of work in this area has been done on discovering the control flow aspect, which shows how activities within a workflow interact with each other. There are other important aspects that can be discovered out of the event logs, but the research on them has been sort of neglected. Organizational perspective is one such area. Study of the organaizational aspect deals with obtaining either the structure of the organization by classifying people in terms of roles and organizational units or show relations between individual performers. In my thesis, I analyse the use of semantics in process mining, specially in the organizational perspective and show how this could be beneficial.
