Abstract | The 2011 flood was a most expensive flood ever experienced by Thai people and which affected all sectors of the country. Qualitative analysis was applied to information gathered from semi structured interviews for dat a processing and analysis. Microsoft excels 2007 as used for quantitative analysis. This study focuses on the small retailers of Ayutthaya province of Thailand, which has experienced many floods. The result of this study shows that flood risk is low prior ity to them and small businesses see a greater risk of multinational retail companies threatening their subsistence. They are affected not only by flood, but also affected by the insects and m ice infestation, which damaged their stocks. Finding also show s that those who applied flood protection measure experienced lower damage than others. After the flood, recovery was hard and slow for all. Most retailers recovered marginal business income to start and many respondents indicated that they were unable to return business income to the average level. This study recommends to local government to help the small retailer's business from the multinational retailers. And gives flood disaster management program education, training to small retail business about th e flood. |
