Abstract | It was found that, earthquake raising awareness campaigns normally have high effectiveness in rural sides but not in urban areas. Therefore, this study proposed the new approach for conducting earthquake raising awareness campaigns in urban community through children education. Research was conducted in Dien Bien of Vietnam where have been suffered a number of small and medium earthquakes but lacking of earthquake raising awareness program. The experiment was prepared for 8 to 12 year old children and their parents to evaluate the ability of receiving knowledge of adults from the new approach. 91 children and their parents were randomly selected in Dien Bien city enjoining the program were divided into 3 groups. In group 1, parents were asked to read the guideline and learned earthquake knowledge from children who attended earthquake from class; group 2, only children learn in class without parent participation; group 3 was control group where children and parent did not learn about earthquake. The result of testing knowledge of participants confirmed that the new approach positively changed earthquake knowledge of children and their parent who participated in the experiment. It also evidenced the highest effectiveness of transforming knowledge process is conferring knowledge in part 1, behaviors for responding during earthquake happened where both children and parent got almost maximum score in this section. |
