Abstract | This paper focuses on studying how the “Natural Dis aster Risk Management Policies” are implemented at the community level in the Republic of Union of Myanmar. Myanmar is recurrent natural disasters as well as it has quite comprehensive national level disaster risk management policies, in general. However, it is imp ortant to study how these policies are being into practiced for reducing the negative effe cts of disasters at community level that community is the first responder as well as disaste r happens locally. Qualitative research methodology has been used to find out the existing policies and the policies implementation at the community level. Disaster ris k management policies at the national level are quite comprehensive. Meanwhile, the relev ant policies are implemented by serving related ministry’s responsibilities and thr ough programs/projects. Current policy implementation at the community level is quite weak , and operational commitment is also weak. Besides, the coverage of implementation areas is still very low and the efforts were made mostly for the response. For the better implem entation of disaster risk management policy at the community level, the linkages between state and community level should be strengthened as well as Community-based Disaster Ri sk Management activities should be implemented according to the national action plan. |
