AbstractEconomic growth always goes together with the increase of energy demand. The high ratio in economic development of Thailand and Vietnam recently requires large amount of energy supply. Accommodate high demand, an expansion of power generation facilities is essential as there are lack of energy resources in these two countries. As a consequence, the pressure in finance to expand the power generation systems becomes more obviously. Meanwhile, the neighboring countries of Thailand and Vietnam which are Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Yunnan province of China have enormous potential of hydropower resource that are utilized only in small rate at present. Enhancing the cross-border energy trading among the countries in the Greater Mekong Sub-region will be a promise choice to deal with the situation of lacking power generation facilities and constraint in finance. The study aims to identify the concepts of development of power interconnection network in the Greater Mekong Sub-region. The combined load curve from load curves of all countries and area in the GMS is developed in the study to identify the benefit of power interconnection to the GMS. The study concentrates on simulation, analysis and evaluation of power transfer in 500kV and 220kV interconnection transmission lines in the GMS for the planning period of 2010-2020. The study focuses on power flow analysis to satisfy the load forecast under thermal limitation and voltage limitation. Recommendations are provided based on the result of the simulation. PSS/E 29 software is used to simulate the power system in the GMS in calculate period
