Abstract | Least cost power generation is significant for Cambodia where the third highest electrical tariff in the ASEAN region is. Generation expansion planning with the cheap power generation resource is an option. However, the availability of cheap power generation resource maybe far away from load center, thus the power has to be transferred from away power station which still results in a high cost. This leads to the application of Distributed Generation (DG). DG gives a great value only when it is placed in an optimum place and size. The best indicator for DG placement is Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP). LMP is obtained by the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) simulation. The objective of the study is formulated in the OPF formulation as single auction social welfare maximization or known as least cost power generation. The study focuses on the Cambodia power system in the year 2021 which the national grid is integrated. The objective is to provide a least cost total power generation of the whole system. Finally, the optimum place and size of DG is obtained in the study. The optimal place for DG is in Phnom Penh city and the size is 160 MW. |
