Abstract | The industrial sector is the main sector in Thailand which contributes the highest share to the development of the economics of the country. The industrial sector is also the sector which consumes the largest energy compared to other sectors. In 2007, the industrial sector produced CO2 emissions around 24% of the total CO2 production in Thailand. The objective of this study is to analyze the environmental implications of CO2 emission reduction target in the industrial sector in Thailand. Some scenarios have been developed to analyze the changes in CO2, SO2 and NOx emissions due to different levels of CO2 emission reduction target. For this purpose, an Integrated Energy Supply System Model (MARKAL) has been used to analyze the problem during the planning period of 2010-2050. There are nine sub-sectors in the industrial sector are considered for the purpose of the study, and there are five potential devices are considered in each sub-sector which can reduce the CO2 emissions. The results show that introducing CO2 emission reduction target would also reduce the SO2 and NOx emissions. The reduction of SO2 and NOx emissions are in the range of 15 to 35.6%. |
