AbstractIn this paper, a sensitivity based particle swarm optimization is proposed to find the optimal under-voltage load shedding. In the first step, the sensitivity index is calculated to find the significant points for load shedding. It is beneficial to the particle swarm in many ways such as the amount of load to be shed by the priority list of sensitivity indexes can be used as one of the initial positions of the particle swarm to find the optimal load shedding faster. The candidate buses for load shedding can be reduced to focus only on the top rank of the priority list of sensitivity indexes in case of the large system. At the end, particle swarm optimization is applied to find the minimum total outage cost or minimum total amount of load to be shed. Test results on IEEE 14 bus and northeastern EGAT 400 bus systems indicate that the proposed methodology can efficiently be used to find the optimal under-voltage load shedding.
