Abstract | For EHV transmission line, it is essential to assess the performance required for equipments. In this study, some important electromagnetic transient studies are performed for design of the 500 kV Vinh Tan – Song May double transmission line in the south region of Vietnam. All the modeling of generators, transformers, lines and other devices of 2015 power system based on Electricity of Vietnam Master Plan No.7 will be also given. This study covers several important aspects of the 500 kV Vinh Tan – Song May double transmission line such as: the transient recovery voltages appearing across the 500 kV circuit breakers and some methods to reduce this value, the switching overvoltage due to reclosing the line and the consideration of using pre - inserted resistor, the selection of shunt reactor with resonance checking, as well as the calculation of secondary arc extinction time by using the EMTP program. These results make important recommendations in selecting the 500 kV circuit breakers to withstand calculated transient recovery voltage, in using shunt reactor to improve voltage on the line, the neutral reactor for secondary arc extinction and in considering closing resistor to reduce overvoltage due to reclosing the line. |
