AbstractThis study examines the long-run and short-run relationship between CO2emissions and income in case of Thailand by employing time series data of 1986–2010. In particular the study aims at testing whether Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) relationship between CO2 emissions and GDP per capita holds in the long-run or not, and to estimate the turning point of relationship. The econometrics results show that there is no unit root among variables, and both dependent variable and independent variable are cointegrated. A cubic relationship between GDP per capita from electricity sector and CO2 emission has been found for the sample period both in long-run and short-run for electricity sector data analysis, whereas a quadratic relationship between GDP per capita and CO2 emissions has been found for the sample period both in long-run and short-run for national data analysis, supporting EKC relationship. Moreover, the results of this study also indicate that the GDP per capita from electricity sector is in the decreasing portion of N-shaped for the electricity sector data analysis and GDP per capita is also in decreasing portion of inverted U-shaped for national data analysis.
