AbstractPopulation growth, rapid urbanization and industrialization are imposing rapidly growing demands and pressures on the natural resources. Water resource management plays an increasingly important role in Udon Thani as well as in Thailand as a whole. Due to the rapid change of living standards in Udon Thani and in order to carry out efficient water planning, bring up similar balance issue on water conversation and quality of life and facilitating a move towards sustainable water use. On the other hand, Constructed wetlands (CW) are an "eco-friendly" alternative for secondary and tertiary municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. Udon Thani as a growing city though not in a scant water resource condition currently is increasing in threat of a potential situation of a strong water demand and less supply due to an unprecedented urban growth and around the city of Udon Thani. This brings the need of a study of the water resource availability and management options around Udon Thani. For the wide semi urban set up in Udon Thani with household and agricultural use being the majority of water use management and technical options were explored and detailed in this research. The research was conducted with field survey, water quality analysis and interview with villagers around the wastewater treatment plant, respondents, head of villages, officers and organizations. The result gave an overview of the wastewater management and threat of the agriculture areas especially two villages such as Sam phao village and Don vai village. Therefore, this study would help the water quality monitoring and management in urban area and it related to water availability, use, and wastewater produced was analyzed and recommendations were drawn after quantitative and qualitative analysis to facilitate appropriate water quality management approaches for the study area. At this point, possible technical and management options for wastewater plan and looked at the possibility of a wastewater use in agricultural sector which has tremendous potential in case of Udon Thani and This study was conducted jointly by AIT in Udon Thani, and the Udon Thani Municipality. The aim of this research is a assisting and facility reduces wastewater and selection of the most appropriate alternative for their area and making a choice towards sustainability.
