AbstractThe aim of this study is to prepare a spatial distributed air pollutants emission inventory for March 2012 in Bohai, the innermost gulf of Yellow Sea. Six species are included, namely, PM, NOx, CO, HC, CO₂ and SO₂. Results show that monthly emission load for these species are 369 (309~429) tonnes, 15121 (12666~17576) tonnes, 1604 (1344~1865) tonnes, 142 (119~165) tonnes, 1005521 (842218~1168730) tonnes and 9261 (7786~10735) tonnes, respectively. The gridded map shows that the emission load near Tianjin and Qinhuangdao, the biggest and second biggest port of this area, is quite high hence it may cause local air quality deterioration especially in coastal area. Other hotspots appear where many routes crossing. Comparison between an only previous study and this study shows large discrepancy on the emission result but reasonably agree with each other regarding the spatial distribution of the emission following the main vessel routes in Bohai. Comparison between satellite observations and EI developed by previous study and this study shows that satellite data can be utilized as a tool to verify the result of EI. Local EI for Bohai has been improved and the result of this study shows better consistency with satellite observations than the previous study. Improvement of the emission inventory in this study in order to prepare database suitable for 3D air quality modeling has been recommended.
