AbstractSustainable water consumption is one of the most important part in a higher education system which aims to greening its activities related to water. Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) which is located in Pathumthani Province of Thailand also in the process of greening the campus in water related issues and its conservation. Every month, AIT need to pay large amount of water consumption charge (1.32 million baht/month) with a high amount of non-revenue water accumulation. This study was carried out to improve the water and wastewater system in AIT in terms of technical and policy level solutions. Research study was conducted with water and wastewater audit, typical pilot scale study and suggestion to greening AIT. Water mains mapping was indicated that most of the water mains were made of galvanized iron material with the diameters of 150 mm and 100 mm. The hydraulic simulation results showed that, changing of pipe diameters could increase the pressure in the drinking water mains. The results of water audit shows that, AIT’s water consumption rate was almost 1500 m³/day. Per capita water consumption rate was almost 456 L/day. Water leakage which represents as non-revenue water accounted as 26.5%. Currently, AIT was generating only 48% of wastewater from its consumption. Drinking water quality in the most of the places were within the Thailand drinking water standards. The pilot scale study showed that 43% of the water could be saved from the sanitary purposes by changing new water conserving appliances (from 9 L/ flush to 4.5 L/flush). This action would help to save monthly charge for AIT. There must be an improvement in conserving and using water in AIT. Non-revenue water rate should be reduced by improving the pipeline system in AIT. Proper leakage management implication, installing less water consuming appliances and reusing of treated wastewater would bring AIT towards its greening activities.
