AbstractPaddy, variety “Chai - nat 1”, was husked by optimizing all four factors; feed rate, pressure, wearing - off distance and rolls speed in order to maximize husking rate and minimize broken rice rate. The objectives of this study were; to study effect and interaction of feed rate and clearance pressure of rubber rolls, effect of clearance pressure and wearing - off distance of rubber rolls, and effect of rubber rolls speed and wearing - off distance of rubber rolls. The feed rate had 3 levels: 2.5, 3, and 3.5 ton/hour, and the clearance pressure had 5 levels: 1, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.2, 2.6, 3 ton/hour. Six groups of rubber rolls, which varied in wearing - off distance, were prepared. The speed of main and auxiliary roll were 3 levels ; 1140/878, 1187/915, and 1235/952. The results showed that optimal feed rate and clearance pressure were 3 ton/hour and from 1.8 to 2.2 kg/cm 2 at the beginning of husking. When the rubber rolls wears off, clearance pressure should be increased to 3 and 4 kg/cm 2 , respectively, in order to maintain performance of the husker. Increasing main roll and auxiliary roll speed from 1187/915 to 1235/952, result better husking rate.
