Abstract | This study examines gender discrimination in Viet N am’s retirement age policy that provides men retired at 60 years old, women retired at 55 years old (which is 5 years earlier than men), and explores impacts of this policy on women civil servants’ training, promotion opportunities, income, and labor dividing . The study uses data from survey collected from 210 civil servants at 18 main depart ments of under local Government in Quang Binh province. By focusing on the civil servants aged 40-45, over 45-50, over 50- 55, and over 55-60, this research finds out that wh en women civil servants retire earlier than men civil servants five years, their education in high levels and their training in longer training programs are lower than men civil servants ’ and the proportion of women civil servants who promoted are lower than the proportion of men civil servants; women civil servants’ salary and women pensioners’ pension are lower than men civil servants’ salary and men pensioners’ pension; and labor dividing is unequal among different age, occupational groups of women and men. This research particularly shows differences awareness of labor Rights and retirement age policy and women’s retirement age preferences and expectations by sex, age and occupa tion. |
