AbstractThis study addresses the sexual harassment experiences of Thai Traditional Masseusesin Bangkok areas by male customers during massage hours. This research also focuseson how female masseuses cope with such situations. The samples are divided into threegroups; Thai Traditional Masseuses, Massage shop owners, and related authorities.Research includes in-depth interview and focus group discussions with the sample groupdivided. To collect the data, relevant to achieve the objective of the research, qualitativestudy, accidental sampling, and snowball sampling methods are used.Most of the key informants faced verbal harassments, explicit actions harassments,and action without touch harassments. The patterns of coping strategies are actionstrategies and verbal strategies to stop unwelcome situations mostly related to sexualharassment. Thai masseuses are considered as gendered professional, which is relatedto dynamics of power between male customers and female masseuses. The nature ofmassage work and services profession characteristic are the supporting factors relatedto sexual harassment. Finally, there is lack of implementation dynamics of relatedauthorities regarding Thai Traditional Masseuses and sexual harassment.
