Abstract | This study aims to observe the influence of gender inequality and age on young brides ‟ decision making behavior for reproductive health needs in Bangladesh. It is found that early age of brides and gender inequalit y, i.e., least access to education, knowledge on reproductive health, family planning, faced with constraints towards RH care, reduces decision making power for RH needs. This study is qualitative in nature; it has employed In Depth Interview of twenty five adolescent brides and eleven Key Informants. Brides were interviewed at the RH clinics designed for poor. G ender inequality and tender age of marriage is found to reinforce traditional gender norms. Young brides are found to enter marriage least equi pped with information on RH, knowledge on RH and comply more passively with gender roles of household. However, girls with incom e and age at the upper adolescence are found to behave more calculative to make decision compared to the younger ones. Tradition al gender norms are reinforced when brides stay unacknowledged and unaware of their rights and health conditions. This study recommends that population explosion challenge of Bangladesh is likely to benefit through focus on adolescent reproductive health |
