AbstractThis study first examines how stigma of HIV/AIDS affects but also differs between men and women. It further examines how this stigmatization is preventing PLWHA from getting proper health services. Another important objective of the study is to look into the stigma and discrimination men and women living with HIV/AIDS face and to examine this stigma and discrimination from gender perspective. The study was conducted in Kavre district, Nepal. The findings gathered from the extensive interview questionnaire with PLWHA, doctors and people working in NGOs using qualitative approach into the concerns of stigm atization and its impact upon PLWHA and their health services. The main finding of the study is that both men and women living with HIV are stigmatized, but that women living with HIV face compounded stigma derived from gender discrimination and disadvant age. This stigmatization is one of the main barriers which prevent PLWHA from receiving proper health care services. The study recommends sensitization training for health professionals, strict punishment against those who discriminate, as well as policies addressing the problem of stigmatization and discrimination against PLWHA
