AbstractWomen employmen t opportunity in the Readymade Garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh provided signifi cant economic benefits and made them empowered also. In contrast, many workers become unable to make proper uses of these benefits due to Domestic Violence (DV) in their fami ly life. The present study makes an effort to explore the factors contributing to make DV of women garment workers and the impacts of DV of the WGWs career and work life of Dhaka city of Bangladesh. Various factors are associated with this domestic viole nce against women workers ’ life. At a time, how they cope with this problem and this study tried to discover the present situation of the workers in the study area . This study may try to uphold the overall scenarios of the DV condition of WGWs of Banglades h. The study presents findings based on collected qualitative data regarding DV of women garment workers due to their job. It is mainly based on in - depth interview of 25 women workers who are involved in work in the Mirpur S ub - district area of Dhaka metrop olitan area and they experienced domestic violence in their family life. The sample size was selected purposively from f i v e different factories of the study area. The key informants provided significant information to the researcher to identify the violent wo men workers from the respective factories. The study revealed that m any of the women garment workers are suffering from DV in their life. They suffer from physical assault, forced sex, psychological pressure, economic crisis etc. They do not possess the r ight to take decision in their family rather their partners’ extra - marital relationships often become the cause of DV problem. They are forced by their partner to take baby and their caring also. They remain busy from morning for their work and their partn ers do not take this positively. They are earn and contribute equally to their partner for the family and trying to fulfill the demands of their family but their contributions are not acknowledged by their male partners . The incomes of the WGWs could not bring significant changes in their life due to the misconducts of their male partners . This study is assist to know the level of DV issue of the WGWs in their family life also . DV problem has significant impacts on the WGWs’ life. They suffer rom social, economic and psychological problem and could not concentrate on their works properly. The most import ant thing is that in Bangladesh a large number of young women are involved in the garment sector and they are facing different types of problems in their household levels. They are under tremendous pressure of works in the factory but they have to maintain their family works also. They try to adjust the adverse situation by their own justifications and also from the supports of their p arents and relatives. They also obtain assistances from the government and non - government organizations to overcome the situation but these could not meet their expectations . This research would be helpful to find out and to address their issues as well as social problems associated. A ccording to the findings the concerned civil society group or government agencies can take effective measures to control and reduce the DV problem of the women garment workers of Bangladesh.
