AbstractThe 3-D and 2-D numerical analysis are made to evaluate responses of single pile and pile group to braced excavation in Bangkok subsoil. The pile responses in term of deflection, shear force and bending moment are compared. Pile responses given by 3-D analysis are more than those of 2-D analysis. Influencing factors on single pile response are studied including distance from wall, pile diameter, pile length, wall depth, vertical load on pile and pile head condition. The results show that the pile diameter is the predominant parameter on the response of single pile. Influence factors on the pile group response, which include distance of pile from wall, pile spacing and number of pile, are also studied. The number of pile in group is the most predominant parameter on the response of pile group. The arrangement of pile group also influences. The numerical analyses are applied to a case study located in Bangkok. The predicted wall movements by both 2D and 3D analyses agree well with the measurement data
