AbstractBecause oil-to-gas cracking is one of the potential causes of geopressure, drilling and exploration operations must be carefully considered otherwise a lot of damages caused from blowout can occur. There have been few studies on this topic in the Gulf of Thailand but no study was carried out for the Khorat plateau. There are a number of techniques to determine geopressure, but the most commonly used is a combination of seismic and logging data. This study employed both Eaton's and Bowers's methods for geopressure calculation which is a geophysical the approach that requires velocity model from seismic data and normal compacted trend of density and velocity from logging data. Seismic and logging data were collected and analyzed. The calculated geopressure profiles will be interpreted in integration with geological and structural geological data to find out the cause to the geopressure. One seismic line and one well in Southwest Khorat basin were selected and processed. The source of data set was available from Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF). The normal compacted trend for density was constructed from RHOB logging data. The normal compacted trend deduced from the first and third cases gave the same trend. There are three normal compacted trends constructed by fitting data, for the whole data set, based on rock types, and based on geological formations. There are also two kinds of normal compacted trend for velocity; one is constructed from seismic and another one is constructed from logging data. There are nine scenarios to calculate geopressure When combining methods of geopressure calculation Eaton's and Bowers's method in this thesis. The potential geoperssure zone was found at the depth about from 2,800 m to 4,800 m, mostly in Nam Phong formation, Phu Kradung, Huai Hin Lat and Kuchinarai formations which might be caused by undercompaction and unloading (clay diagenesis) processes. It is recommended more studies be done for Khorat plateau to help understand better the potential geopressure in the region
