AbstractThis study deals with the regional scale landslide susceptibility analysis for the east Java, Indonesia. Landslides in the hilly terrain of study area have caused property damage during the last decade. To address this problem the quantitative methods called multivariate statistical analysis in the form of logistic regression and deterministic based Sinmap were applied to produce the landslide susceptibility map. The SINMAP is terrain stability model that combines steady state hydrology assumptions with the infinite slope stability model to compute shallow slope stability. It classifies the study area into six classes based on stability index value. Logistic regression narrates predictor variables to the occurrence or nonoccurrence of landslides within geographic cells and uses the relationship to create a map showing the probability of potential landslides that generates five classes. Data included soil properties, daily rainfall, digitized geology; Aster G Dem was manipulated using ArcGis. An inventory of existing 127 landslides from interpretation of satellite images and GPS surveys was used to provide a test of model performance by comparing observed landslide locations with model predictions. SINMAP model delineates the unstable regions (SI < 1) as 1.38% for District Malang and 5.05% for District Blitar. MaxEnt defines the unstable area (medium to high susceptible) as 7.65% and 3.75% for Districts Malang and Blitar respectively.
