Abstract | Modelling of groundwater pressure effect and slope stability analysis of C1 pit on deep pit mining of Mae Moh lignite mine has been carried out in this study. Groundwater flow model was constructed using visual modflow 3D Finite difference method. The model consists of two aquifers and one aquitard which were then divided in to nine material types for property designation. The predictive simulations were carried out for next seven years (2010 to 2017) according to the mine development plane. Results shows that low permeable argillite underlay the west wall of C1 pit is problematic and it showed low drawdown for short term predictive simulations and simulations of pumping from argillite formaion. Long term pumping schedules must be initiated to lower the potentiometric head within argillite formation by pumping from limestone under NE pit. Stability of the west wall of C1 pit for year 2017 pit slope was evaluated in terms of safety factor by limit equilibrium method. Results obtained indicate that the west wall is susceptible to failure when water pressure is associated with it. To maintain a safe slope, potentiometric head within the west wall of C1 pit should be maintain below 170m, MSL |
