Abstract | Because of increasing the global demand of oil and gas, oil and gas exploration companies are being forced to explore in deep water. Many researchers believe that the marine electromagnetic (EM) methods, in particular, controlled source electromagnetic (CSEM) method will become a standard tool in the offshore exploration toolbox. The purpose of this research is to study on marine EM methods, especially CSEM method for oil and gas exploration using model-based inversion. In order to achieve this objective, the one¬dimensional forward modeling and inversion open source codes were developed with adding the new smoothness constraint module in FORTRAN. Then, the codes were tested on two synthetic models and applied on some Southeast Asia basins (i.e., Phitsanulok, Fang, North Malay, Cuu Long and Central Burma). The forward analysis results are the EM responses (i.e., apparent resistivity, phase) and the inversion results are ID resistivity model structure with depth. The results of model-based inversion are very close to those of the synthetic models, proving that this model-based inversion could be used in finding EM responses and the resistivity model structure of oil and gas basins in Southeast Asia |
