AbstractChoice of methods to control seepage through emban kment dam foundations is made primarily from consideration of the permeabili ty of foundation soils and underlying bed rock. Tha-Htay dam foundation consists of a relati vely thick deposit of pervious alluvium. So, foundation treatment at the river section is made b y means of diaphragm wall cutoff; 198 m in length and maximum depth of 47 m. Curtain grouting is employed for jointed rock abutments. The study involves a review on design and construct ion of diaphragm wall cutoff and grout curtain for seepage control through the foundation. It was the deepest diaphragm wall cutoff constructed in Myanmar. Plastic concrete was used a s diaphragm wall material. The depth of diaphragm wall was actually constructed comparable with the prediction from borehole data before construction. For curtain grouting, relation ship between cement take and Lugeon value of the abutment rock foundation was assessed. The stud y also reviewed data on application of diaphragm walls as foundation cutoff in other dams in Myanmar. Nineteen dams were reviewed.
