AbstractTunnel construction and rock support used in the Nancho hydropower projectwas studied, and theactual tunnel support types were comparedwith recommended RMRsupporttypes. Rock mass classifications were carried out by the RMR system. Therockmass was mainly fairto good classand the most observed rocks aregranite, gneiss and schistose gneiss.Tunnel rock supports actually used according to the initial designedby a Japaneseclassification system wascompared with recommended support requirementby RMR. It was found that the actual support was muchless than RMR’s for the whole rock mass of tunnel. Moreover, design and construction of the penstock of the project was also reviewed in this study.
