AbstractThe presence of the Infracambrian rocks to the west of the Aravalli Ranges has been confirmed after observing the rock succession found in Karampur well - 1, Bahawalpur East - 1, Marot - 1, Bijnot - 1 and FortAbbas - 1.The successful findings of heavy oil in Baghewala well - 1 in Rajasthan, India has lead to a number of wells encountered in Punjab Platform, Pakistan. Merely heavy oil was found in Karampur well - 1 but none of well in Central Indus Basin produced any kind of hydrocarbon show. In this research, Petroleum System Modeling using 1D PetroMod was done for a hydrocarbon field in Central Indus Basin, Pakistan, i.e., Fort Abbas field”. At this field a well was drilled to a depth of 1651m in Infracambrian rocks of Salt Range Formation. Geochemical data and wire line data were collected and used to run the Petroleum System Model. The Model results show that all elements of petroleum system are present and timely deposited. The Infracambrian rocks in study area have been found as potential source rock. For the same data the analytical calculati on of petroleum resources show good amount of hydrocarbon generation and expulsion. The results of Petroleum System Modeling and analytical assessment confirmed the presence of active Infracambrian source rock s in Central Indus Basin with good potential to generate and expel hydrocarbon
