Abstract | Wellbore instability problems are the most common drilling problems in oil and gas industry. Nowadays, over billion of dollar have been spent to cope with those problems. Therefore, to come up with the economic solution would help the oil and gas companies to find the way to prevent or mitigate the problems. Since, the solving method is dependent on many factors but field characteristic is one of the most data that need to analyze and study. This study aims to propose the possible solution to prevent and mitigate the wellbore instability problems in this particular gas field which located in the North Eastern of Thailand. Since the characteristic of the reservoir is a naturally fractured carbonate which on the top of reservoir is overlaying by the unconformable dolomitic limestone, dolomite, claystone and some interbeded hard shale. However, the top formation is mostly consisting of sandstone and siltstone. In this area, the drilling operation used to face with the wellbore instability problems caused by drilling through the upper formation and shale layers. To propose the possible preventive and corrective action will be based on the reviewing of offset well data such as daily drilling report (DDR), geological daily report (GDR), geological prognosis and etc. All of these data can be gathered from the final well report of each well. However, in order to choose the most suitable solution is not only because of the technical reason support but it need to be field practical as well. Based on the recommended result, this study would give the suggest solutions that could prevent or mitigate the wellbore instability problems that frequently occurred in the drilling operation in this particular gas field in the north eastern area in Thailand. |
