AbstractThe empirical factor for estimating ultimate capacity of bored piles in Bangkok subsoils using the static formula is updated in this study by using pile load test dataof 13 large diameter bored piles (length 47-64 m) recently available from Mass Rapid Transit Red Line Project. It is found that the adhesion factor (α) of clay layers of the piles is slightly lower than thosesuggestedin the past researches, whereas thefriction factor (β) of sand layers is slightly higher. Similarly, the Ncfactor and Nqfactor for ultimate bearing capacity of clay and sand layers, respectively, determined from these pile load test data are both slightly higher than those reported in the past studies. These bored piles were constructed using bentonite-polymer slurry in the hole boring. The characteristics of t-z curves for skin friction and q-z curves for end bearing of both clay and sand layers are also determined from the load tests of these piles.
