AbstractEstimation of water saturation and hydrocarbon saturation, is the most important task of well log analysis for any oil and gas held. It is even more so for the Fang oil field, the oldest field in Thailand, whose from 100 years of oil production requires new discoveries of hydrocarbon. Consequently, one needs to apply better E&P technology as well as to estimate better the water resistivity of HC-bearing reservoir. This study is to propose a systematic approach to collect the reservoir water samples and measure their resistivities as Fang basin. Total of 46 Production wells from 8structures,i.e.,Mae Soon, Ban Rai, Mae Pa Phai, San Sai, Pong Nok, Nong Yao, Sam Jang, and Pong Sai Kham, were selected for water sampling. Conductivity (EC), temperature, resistivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, measurement were made on these samples. In addition, well log data log three were collected, for which water resistivity was indirectly estimation based on by Pickett plot. Resistivity measured Fang oil field ranges from 3.9 to 10 Ωm, water conductivities range 974 to 2,504 uS/cm. These lowest water resistivity was found in a Nong Yao of about 1.9 Ωm. A Water resistivity was further corrected for borehole temperature. On the other hand, indirect estimation of water resistivity based on Pickett plot gave Rw of about 0.18 to 1.00 Ωm for FA-MS-32-56 and about 0.61 to 2.97 Ωm of wellFA-NY-33-04. Correlation equations between the measured and corrected resistivities were found as RwMeas = 0.349*RwPickett+2.786for well FA-MS-32-56, RwMeas = 0.213*RwPickett+1.944for well FA-NY-32-03. Moreover, the well log analysis results on water saturation have been done using Techlog with Generalized shale equation and Simandoux equation. As one of the main outputs of this study, map of resistivity for Fang basin can be used to estimate water resistivity values (Rw) for undrilled areas or for wells for which no data are available.
