AbstractThe Middle Miocene sand is an important reservoir in the Nam Con Son basin, in the particular in the BEAR field. This sand appears quite well on the logs, i.e., GR from 63 to 90 API, RHOB from 2.33 to 2.65 g/cc, NPHI from 0.09 to 0.18, LLD from 5 to 20 Ohm.m. However, to map this Middle Miocene sand over a large area one needs to use in addition the results of seismic inversion, which unfortunately has a low resolution. In this study, a new approach called the Rock Physics Template (RPT) was applied based on integration of Hertz-Mindlin (1949)’s model, Hashin-Strikman (1963)’s model and Gassmann (1951)’s equation. A notably feature was the use of the approach proposed by Dung et al. (2017) to estimate dry frame rock bulk modulus and consequently to construct a good RPT which fit with the study location condition. As a result, by combining the newly construction RPT and the results of the elastic seismic inversion the Middle Miocene gas bearing sand in BEAR field was well detected.
