AbstractThe advent and emergence of Web service composition technologies has helped to support business-to-business and enterprise application integration. Service composition has gained wide acceptance because it allows the reuse of already existing services to develop a new service. Many toolkits have been developed to allow the composition of distributed services. However, the available frameworks do not provide support to temporal reasoning to carry out the process of discovery of Web services. Temporal data and relations are common in real¬world applications and the satisfaction of time-related constraints can be considered as essential criteria for the selection of Web services. There are temporal interval relations that have been developed which can be used to implement the temporal relations. This framework is mainly focused on the implementation of temporal rules for the selection and composition of Web services. For the discovery of Web services, XET which is an XML-based, declarative, higher order programming language has been used. The computation and inference capability of XET makes it easier to implement temporal reasoning in XET. WSMO provides semantic annotations to the description of Web services which signifies the adaptation of Semantic Web technologies to support automatic discovery and selection of Web services. Lastly, the composition of Web services comprises of executable BPEL processes that offers new service to the users. The framework employs these different technologies to support the composition of Web services satisfying temporal constraints. In order to evaluate its effectiveness, a prototype based on the framework has been implemented
