AbstractCooperative diversity transmission utilizes spatial diversity created by antenna sharing in a wireless network. In addition, multiple carriers introduce frequency di¬versity and facilitate better performance at receivers. The objective of this thesis is to investigate cooperative diversity technique performing in a multicarrier CDMA system with frequency selective channel condition. We mainly focus on the use of Despreading-Combining receiver and coherent receiver with Maximal Ratio Combin¬ing (MRC) in the uplink of the cooperative CDMA network. Both orthogonal and non-orthogonal spreading codes are considered. Orthogonal CDMA cancels out the Multiple Access Interference (MAl) and the performance completely depends on the number of carriers used. The Symbol Error Rate (SER) performance does not depend on processing gain, in the case of orthogonal normalized spreading sequence. Coopera¬tive MC-CDMA network with non-orthogonal spreading shows the similar trends. The Gaussian approximation for Multiple Access Interference (MAl) closely follows the de¬rived theoretical result at higher SNR values and full load conditions. It deviates more at lower SNR values and hence not a suitable approximation at lower signal-to-noise ratio
