Abstract | ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) is the most predominant IT framework used by IT department within organizations, Configuration Management is very important process in IT services management. This process is supported by the use of a Configuration Management Data Base (CMDB) and is in charge to identify record and trace all IT infrastructure items and information of the organization. In the description of ITIL configuration management process, maintaining the integrity of the Information System infrastructure can be achieved by management and planning, configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and reporting & audits. There are several frameworks available to do Configuration Management but they have shortcomings of their own, outlined in this study. This paper proposes a framework and a methodology for CMDB building and management based on ITIL, which intends to address and overcome those weaknesses. The methodology, derived from the established framework, is designed to give a step-by-step guide to build a large-scale CMDB. The developed framework is then compared to real world open source projects to evaluate its effectiveness. Several areas of improvement are then presented |
