AbstractIn this thesis, the energy efficiency and the sum capacity of a static MIMO ad hoc net¬work that utilizes two different TDMA based transmission protocol designs that can provide a reliable, time sharing single relay assisted communication is analyzed over a Rayleigh fading channel model and a Rayleigh fading plus Log Normal shadowing channel model. The impact of the STBC - Alamouti diversity schemes on the energy efficiency of MIMO ad hoc network is also analyzed for further improvements of the reliability. A single relay assisted communication is introduced for the links which have the low data rates (i.e.When the required QoS for the required type of service is not satisfied). Non Cooperative general game theoretical power allocation method which is proposed by Liang and Dandekar (Liang and Dandekar, 2007) shows the higher energy efficien¬cies and sum capacities over the iterative multiuser waterfilling method (Yu and Cioffi, 2001). This method is used to determine the optimum power allocation for the links in each time window of the transmission protocols of the new approach. The simula¬tion results of the proposed method that utilizes one of the two TDMA transmission protocol designs show a similar improvement in the energy efficiency. This is in com¬parison to the game theoretical power allocation with link shut down approach which is proposed by Liang and Dandekar as an extension to the general game theoretical approach to improve the energy efficiency. The reliability of the communication links can be guaranteed with this new approach that we can not guarantee with the link shut down mechanism. The STBC - Alamouti diversity schemes are introduced to the network for the further improvements of the reliability. The simulation results of the single hop MIMO ad hoc system with diversity schemes are compared with the non diversity schemes utilized single hop MIMO ad hoc systems with general game theoretical power allocation and iterative multiuser waterfilling power allocation. The energy efficiency of the single hop MIMO system with diversity schemes show a lower performance results with the general game theoretical approach
