Abstract | Nowadays, OLAP tool can help people to understand their data by allowing users to explore and analyze it. However, the existing tools have two main problems that need to be solved. The first problem is about cube structure navigator. Users can be lost in tree topology and a lot of clicks are needed to fmd desired node using the existing Window-like tree browser. DOITree browser was implemented in this study to evaluate its effectiveness compare with the Window-like tree browser in OLAP domain. The result shows that users spend less time and fewer clicks to find a node using DOITree browser. The second problem is about time-based data presentation. The existing graph of present OLAP tools is complex, hard to fmd trend and compare trend of timed-based data. Therefore, focus on demand graph was developed to present the data. The graph is composed of graph matrix and overlaid graph. Type of graph in graph matrix is not the same when measures are placed on different locations to provide different aspects to the users. The graph was evaluated compare with the existing one. The result shows that the focus on demand graph is better for finding trend and comparing trend of time-based data. In conclusion, this thesis has found that interactive visualization techniques can significantly improve the speed of browsing and analysis tasks for complex OLAP tool |
