AbstractOne of the most important problems in academic universities and institutes is enrollment management, which is the process of defining enrollment goals and establishing procedures to reach these goals. Previous work has developed financial aid optimizing system which can predict enrollment given applicant background and recommend the amount of optimized financial aid offered. The results of this system are very useful but it is hard for the enrollment managers to understand as well as to modify. This thesis involves taking the results of the financial aid optimization and using decision tree induction to generate a set of policy rules. The rules can then be viewed and edited to obtain the effective of the policy. The resulting rules can be run back again on the enrollment prediction module of the financial aid optimizing system to simulate the effect of the policy they represent
