Abstract | Nowadays, people world-wide are using social network applications to communicate with loved ones, friends and family. Not only text passages but also the social network applica- tions, provide access to shared media content such as audio, videos and photos. To be able to access shared content world-wide with an effective user experience and high quality, these applications use content delivery network (CDN) solutions. However, content delivery net- works do not solve all of the problems that social network applications facing; therefore, this thesis proposes and evaluates the effectiveness of the new technique that complements the content delivery network by using social connections between users. The concept is applied in the development of a new web application, SocialiVideo. SocialiVideo,on top of the content delivery network used by a social network application, prioritizes users who are in the same city or region as the content owner, giving the user direct access to the content owner’s storage for streaming the desired videos. To enable this, SocialiVideo provides end-to-end video stream access. Access is limited to the users who have friend relationships to the content owner in Facebook. If a user is not a friend of the content owner, access will not be provided |
