AbstractThis research consider the integrated production and inventory problem in a two-echelon inventory system two manufacturers. The relationship between the two manufacturers are examined in terms of the production rates, production batches size, production set up cost, inventory holding costs and transportation cost. Mathematical models are developed for an integrated production and inventory system with two manufacturers. In particular, the models developed in this research will take into consideration decisions of where to hold the inventory (upstream or downstream echelon) and when to ship the product between them. Different scenarios have been investigated in the development of mathematical model. The optimal solutions for all these cases were also determined. Sensitivity analysis were also conducted to illustrated the applicability of the proposed models.
