AbstractThis research has developed a model for a hybrid backlog-lost sales inventory control policy with a Poisson demand process. It is assumed that no more than one outstanding order is allowed and lead time is fixed. Mathematical model was build to deal with problem, and we also have developed the simple search procedures to determine optimal solution. Numerical experiments and sensitivity analysis with respect to demand rate, lead time and shortage cost per unit for lost sale cycle have been conducted to illustrate the applicability ofthe developed model. However, it should be noted that the use of Poisson process for the demand pattern is applicable only when slow moving items. Future researches should be conducted for the fast moving terms or the case when the demand process is a compound Poisson process
