| Abstract | This thesis proposed a periodic review inventory policy for a single-product with two supply modes, in which, at the review time if the inventory position is below S and above the emergency re-order point R, the normal supply mode will be used to raise the inventory position up to S, and if the inventory position is at or below the emergency re-order point R, the emergency supply mode will be used to raise the inventory position up to S. The emergency lead time is shorter than the normal supply lead-time and the orders only issued at review time. An approximate total cost function C (R,S) is developed for the proposed inventory policy and a procedure is established to find the optimal control parameters, i.e. R, S, such that the total cost is minimized. Finally, a sensitivity analysis of input parameters such as: ordering cost, shortage cost, lead-time and cycle time will be conducted |
