AbstractThis research study presents the development of a vision system for use in an autonomous Intelligent Vehicle application. Nowadays, Intelligent Vehicles study is widely interested by many researchers, one of the important things to control the vehicle are it's real-time data especially speed and direction. The new method or the new algorithm by using vision-system or camera will be advantages for the other researcher in the related field in the future. The thesis presents a new algorithm to determine speed and direction using continuous images from a web-camera attached to the vehicle along the paved road. The new concept of direction determination is adapted by using the algorithm of linear regression equation to detect the angle changes while the vehicle is running. It needs a very simple algorithm but results a very well accuracy value. The concept of counting pixel changes at different speed is applied to determine speed of the vehicle. It also results satisfy test but at high speed and may need other algorithm to improve it. Both algorithms are new concept for this kind of tasks. The program proved its efficiency in a real environment, but it is not limited to it. Other applications, e.g. Flying Robot, Underwater Robot and more, can also use this concept of vision system for the related tasks.
