Abstract | In suspension assembly processes, the purpose of visual inspection is to detect the suspension visual defects for example contamination, dimple separation, pitch, notch, dent, laser splatter and present/absent parts. Currently, suspension process operation relies significantly on human inspectors and thus yields low accuracy, consistency and impacts overall machine cycle time. To solve accuracy and consistency problems, we propose an automated visual inspection system which can be built by using high resolution camera and perform inspection via either PC or dedicated device to extract signature of the defects for pass/fail justification. In the propose system, the primary concern is the defect detection algorithm. To derive the algorithm, this research explore the feature of visual defects suspension based on feature such as, brightness, sharpness, orientation etc. The result is defined in percentage before classifying into independent features for appropriate detection algorithm. This study is based on final visual mechanical inspection (FVMI) at MPT assembly process. We have developed the algorithms and written program in c++ to test the algorithms. The programs are tested at the MPT assembly line. We present the test result along with recommendations for further improvement. |
