AbstractIn this research, a three-stage supply chain model is consideredin which a firm can supply many customers. Moreover, the downstream firmscanorder raw materials from many upstream firms and all upstream companies are not necessary in operation. A mathematical model is developed to help determine the optimal total cost which includes the inventory holding cost, the setup cost and the ordering cost. Two inventory coordination mechanisms which arethe equal cycle time and the integer multiplier cycle time analyzed. The objective is to determine the optimal lead time T and the optimal ordering amountswhich are placedto the upstream firms from the downstream firms that minimized the total cost of the whole multi-stage supply chain. To accomplish this, aninteger nonlinear program is formulated and solved. The numerical results are conductedto illustrate the applicabilityof the developed model. It can be concluded that the proposedmodel is useful for makingoptimal coordinated production –inventory decisions in a multi-stage supply chain.
