Abstract | The study investigates the procedures to implement Traditional DBR (TDBR) andSimplified DBR (SDBR) scheduling mechanisms in different types of market. TDBRfocuses on the exploitation of the Capacity-Constrained Resource (CCR) of the system sothat the resource could be effectively utilized. TDBR uses three buffers – ConstraintBuffer, Shipping Buffer and Assembly Buffer – to support the production of the CCR ofthe system. On the other hand, SDBR focuses on the delivery schedule of market andsubordinate the resources of the system to this schedule so that the orders from the marketcould be delivered in time. SDBR uses only Shipping Buffer to support the production ofthe whole system while using an indicator – CCR Planned Load – to control the CCRworkload. The simulation approach is employed and ARENA Software is used to build the models ofa hypothetical manufacturing system in which three production policies (Traditional pushpolicy, TDBR and SDBR) are implemented in stable and fluctuating market. The stable market requires the large and stable demand in a long production time. Based onthe experiments, SDBR shows better performance when variation of operation time is lowor medium while TDBR is better when the variation of operation time is high. The fluctuating market requires the system to satisfy the orders having small quantities andshort delivery time. From the results of the experiments, TDBR is better when thefluctuation of market is low or medium while both TDBR and SDBR show equivalentresults when the fluctuation of market is high. |
