AbstractThe Shewhart control charts are usually used for monitoring quality attributes and variables. In principle, for large shifts of more 1.5-sigma in the process mean, the Shewhart control charts are quite good at detecting them. However, the Shewhart control chart cannot detect small shifts effectively. Therefore, other types of control charts such as cumulative sum chart (CUSUM) or exponentially weighted moving average chart (EWMA) should be used in these situations. In this research project, the control charts for the norms of Phu My fertilizer plant are constructed to help control the required quality level of the process. At first, column chart and line chart are constructed to help evaluate and compare the differences between real norms and published norms of the plant. Second, XmR charts, a kind of Shewhart control charge for individual measurements, are constructed to help detect large shifts are constructed. Next, Cusum charts are also constructed to help detect small shifts in the process. Finally, based on the constructed control charts, analysis will be conducted to help find out the root causes of quality problems by use of cause-and-effect diagrams.
