AbstractWind conditions in Jiwani coastal site determine the need for a small scale wind turbine to produce power at wind speeds below 7.5m/s. In this thesis a range of wind speed within which optimal performance of the turbine is expected, was selected. The optimal performance was observed in terms of Coefficient of performance (CP), which rates the turbine blades ability to extract energy from the available wind stream. This thesis also presents and describes about a research for wind turbine blade and methods for wind turbine blade optimization. This study is mainly focused on the three blade horizontal axis wind turbine and performance of its blades. This thesis also focused on the effect of changing the airfoil sections of the blade along its length. The best blade shape is obtained from BEM theory calculations with maximum coefficient of performance (CP). The design of the blade was developed by using Solid works/COSMOS Floworks to reach the highest possible power output with optimized design. The design of the blade is one of the important factor that needs to be considered as it will affect the performance of the wind turbine system. The comparison between the BEM theory results with Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD simulations results were also show a similarity. For the proposed blade design parametric studies such as changing of twist angle were also found the significant effect on coefficient of performance (CP).
